25. Synchronizing the artworks on your device with Cloud Storage

What is Cloud Storage?

Cloud storage is a function that allows you to upload and save your artworks to a file storage area on the Internet and to download the artworks saved there to your devices. Prime Members can use up to 20GB, and non-Prime Members can use up to 64MB of storage capacity.

Cloud storage offers you the following advantages.

  1. ①It is safe even if your device got damaged or lost … If you save your artworks to Cloud Storage, you will be able to download them to another device should the device you’ve been using be lost or damaged, so there is no need to fear losing your artworks.
  2. ②You can save storage space on your device … y saving your artworks to Cloud Storage and deleting them from the device you are using, you can save some storage space on your device. The deleted artworks can be downloaded from Cloud Storage at any time.
  3. ③You can synchronize your artworks between multiple devices … Artworks saved in Cloud Storage will be synchronized between all the devices you are using to work on. It is also easy to, for instance, make a draft on your smartphone when you’re out and then draw the rest on your tablet after you get home.
  4. ④Easy transfer of artworks to new devices … If you save your artworks in Cloud Storage, it is easy to transfer them in case you change your device to a new one. Log in to ibisPaint on your new device and download your artworks from Cloud Storage.

If you are not a Prime Member, you can increase your Cloud Storage capacity to 20GB by subscribing to Prime Membership. For more information about Prime Membership, please check the page Prime Membership / Remove Ads Add-on (iOS,iPadOS,Android versions) or Prime Membership / Pro Add-on (Windows Version).

How to use Cloud Storage

Tap ①[ Cloud Synchronization ]. If you are not logged in to ibisPaint yet, the Settings window will open. Turn on ②[ Agree ]. Select the ③[ Account ] you wish to log in with and tap ④[ Sing in ].

An explanation about Cloud Storage will be displayed. When you finish reading, tap ⑤[ × ] to close it.

Thus, the synchronization of your artworks with Cloud Storage will start. Depending on factors such as the number of artworks you want to synchronize, their file size, and the quality of your connection, it may take some time for the synchronization to complete. Please wait with the My Gallery screen opened.

Your artworks have been successfully synchronized with Cloud Storage. This means that the synchronized artworks are now stored both on your device and in Cloud Storage. When you edit an artwork saved on your device, the edited content will be reflected in the same artwork saved in Cloud Storage. The artwork on your device and in Cloud Storage are saved in the same state.

Even if your device got lost or damaged, or if you change your device to a new one, you will be able to download your artworks from Cloud Storage.

If your device goes to sleep (the screen becomes dark), the screen will be locked and this will stop synchronization with the Cloud. If synchronization seems to be taking some time, we recommend turning on ⑥[ Do not sleep during synchronization ] in the Settings window. This will keep your device awake with My Gallery being opened and help to prevent the interruption of the synchronization when you have artworks that are waiting to be synchronized.

Sync status

  1. ①[ Cloud synchronization scheduled ] … Displayed on artworks that are waiting to be synchronized (uploads or downloads) with Cloud Storage, or artworks that are in the process of being synchronized.
  2. ②[ Cloud synchronization complete ] … Displayed on artworks that have been synchronized with Cloud Storage. When the synchronization is completed, the artworks you have synchronized will be stored on both the device and in Cloud Storage.
  3. ③[ Corrupted file ] … Displayed when the artwork scheduled to be synchronized with Cloud Storage is damaged. You can restore the file by tapping the thumbnail of the artwork in My Gallery. However, restoration may sometimes not be possible depending on the extent of damage to the file.
  4. ④[ Cloud synchronization has stopped ] … Displayed on artworks whose synchronization with Cloud Storage has stopped or artworks that cannot be synchronized due to the lack of Cloud Storage capacity. You can enlarge the thumbnail of an artwork and tap Update to resume syncing if you have enough free Cloud Storage space.
  5. ⑤[ Cloud-only artworks ] … Displayed on artworks that are not saved on your device but are saved in Cloud Storage only. You can download such artworks to your devices from Cloud Storage.

If the “Cloud synchronization has stopped” icon is displayed next to the title of your artwork and synchronization has stopped, you can restart it by the following steps. However, please note that if the synchronization has stopped due to the lack of Cloud Storage capacity, it will not resume even if you tap update.

Tap the ⑥[ Thumbnail ] of the artwork that has stopped synchronizing to enlarge it. Tap ⑦[ Update ] to resume synchronization.

Increasing Cloud Storage capacity

If you are not a Prime Member and your artworks cannot be synchronized due to the lack of Cloud Storage capacity, please consider subscribing for the Prime Membership. Cloud Storage capacity will increase from 64MB to 20GB.

Tap ①[ Settings ]. The Settings window will open. Tap ②[ Get More Capacity ].

The Prime Membership explanation page will be displayed. Select either ③[ Yearly Plan ] or ④[ Monthly Plan ] to proceed to purchasing Prime Membership.

For Prime Members, the yearly plan is more cost-effective than the monthly plan, so we recommend subscribing to the yearly plan.

For more information on Prime Membership, please check the page Prime Membership / Remove Ads Add-on (iOS,iPadOS,Android versions) or Prime Membership / Pro Add-on (Windows Version).

Cloud Storage settings

In the Settings window displayed when tapping on the Settings button at the upper right corner of the ibisPaint title screen, you will find some settings related to the synchronization with Cloud Storage.

  1. ①[ Cloud Synchronization ] … Turns the synchronization with Cloud Storage on/off.
  2. ②[ Synchronization automatically even with Mobile Network ] … When turned on, artworks get automatically synchronized with Cloud Storage even while you are using mobile data. When turned off, artworks will only be automatically synchronized when Wi-Fi is available.
  3. ③[ Do not sleep during synchronization ] … When turned on, this will keep your device awake with My Gallery being opened and help to prevent the interruption of the synchronization when you have artworks that are waiting to be synchronized.
  4. ④[ Get More Capacity ] … Displays the detailed explanation page about Prime Membership.
  5. ⑤[ Behavior on Deleting Synchronized item ] … Select the desired behavior when deleting artworks that are synchronized with Cloud Storage.
  6. ⑥[ Confirm ] … You will be able to select whether you want to delete the artworks you have saved only on your device or to delete the artworks saved both on the device and in Cloud Storage.
  7. ⑦[ Delete Only Local File ] … Always delete only the artworks saved on your device.
  8. ⑧[ Delete File on Cloud As Well ] … Always delete both the artworks saved on your device and in Cloud Storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

While Cloud Storage is a very useful feature, it may be difficult to understand how it works until you get used to it. Below is a summary of questions related to Cloud Storage that users frequently ask. Please refer to them when using Cloud Storage.

Q:On which server will artworks uploaded to the Cloud Storage be saved?

Uploaded artworks are saved on servers managed by our company (ibis Co., Ltd.), which is a service operating company.

Q:Will artworks uploaded to Cloud Storage be published in Online Gallery?

No, they will not.

Q:I want to stop synchronizing with Cloud Storage.

Open the Settings window by tapping the Settings button at the upper right of the ibisPaint title screen and turn off Cloud Synchronization.

Q:Is it possible to select artworks that synchronize with Cloud Storage?

No, it is not possible.

Q:What happens if I delete an artwork while it is being synchronized with Cloud Storage?

There are two options for how to delete an artwork.

The confirmation dialog that appears when you delete an artwork will ask: "Would you like to delete the selected artwork?” If you select Delete, it will also ask: "Would you like to delete it from Cloud Storage as well?"
If you select “Yes” at this point, the artwork will be deleted from both Cloud Storage and your device. If you select “No” at this point, only the artwork on your device will be deleted.
If you are deleting the artwork to save storage space on your device, select “No”.

Q:I use multiple devices. After deleting one of my artworks on Device A, the “Cloud synchronization has stopped” icon is still displayed next to the title of the same artwork on Device B. Why?

This is because the same artwork on Device B and Cloud Storage have stopped synchronizing because both the artwork on Device A and the artwork stored in Cloud Storage have been deleted.

When you delete an artwork from a device, a confirmation box appears asking “Would you like to delete it from Cloud Storage as well?” If you select “Yes” then the artwork will be deleted from both the device (Device A) and Cloud Storage.
Please note that if you delete the artwork from Cloud Storage, the artwork saved on the other device (Device B) will stop synchronizing with Cloud Storage.
To resume synchronization with Cloud Storage, enlarge the thumbnail of the artwork with the “Cloud synchronization has stopped” icon on Device B and tap Update at the bottom right.

Q:I want to delete only the artworks I’ve saved in Cloud Storage and keep the artworks I’ve saved on my device.

Open the Settings window by tapping the Settings button at the upper right of the ibisPaint title screen and turn off Cloud Synchronization.
If you are not a Prime Member and you do not use Cloud Storage for 180 days or more, all the artworks stored there will be automatically deleted.
If you are a Prime Member, 30 days after your Prime Membership has expired, any artworks that exceed the Cloud Storage capacity of 64MB will be automatically deleted. After that, if you do not use Cloud Storage for 180 days or more, all the remaining artworks stored there will also be deleted.
It is also possible to manually delete the artworks saved in Cloud Storage by following the steps below. Be aware that all the artworks will be deleted immediately and permanently. This will not delete any artworks saved on your device.

Open the Online Gallery, then select My Page > Edit > Menu (...) > Delete all the data in the Cloud Storage to immediately delete all the artworks from your Cloud Storage.

Q:Will my settings for things like color palettes, brush parameters, and custom brushes be synchronized with Cloud Storage?

No. Only artwork files can be synchronized with Cloud Storage. For details on how to backup and restore settings, take a look at the page Model change / Transfer (Backup settings).

Q:I turned on cloud synchronization, but the ”Cloud synchronization is scheduled” icon is still displayed and my artworks are not synchronizing with Cloud Storage.

By default, synchronization with Cloud Storage is set to be carried out when using Wi-Fi, therefore the synchronization will not start unless your device is connected to Wi-Fi. Please check the Wi-Fi connection status of your device.

Open the Settings window by tapping the Settings button at the upper right of the ibisPaint title screen and turn on “Synchronize automatically even with Mobile Network”. This will enable synchronization with Cloud Storage even when using mobile data.
Depending on factors such as number of artworks you want to synchronize, their file size, and the quality of your connection, it may take some time for the synchronization to complete. Please wait with the My Gallery screen opened.
If synchronization seems to be taking some time, we recommend turning on “Do not sleep during synchronization" in the Settings window.

Q:Will automatic synchronization with Cloud Storage be carried out when a screen other than My Gallery (such as Title screen or Canvas screen) is displayed, or when the app is in the background?

No. Automatic synchronization with Cloud Storage will only when the My Gallery screen is displayed.

Q:I use multiple devices. If I turn on cloud synchronization on Device A and then turn on cloud synchronization on Device B, will the artworks that exist only on device A disappear?

No. If you turn on cloud synchronization on multiple devices, artworks stored on each device will be uploaded to Cloud Storage and will be combined into one group. When automatic synchronization is turned on on multiple devices, your artworks will not disappear by themselves.

Q:There are more and more copies of the same artwork appearing with date and time on the end of the title. Why?

There are three possible reasons, all of which cause conflicts in the edited content and therefore the artworks with the same name but different dates/times are generated:

  • Editing artworks synchronized with Cloud Storage on multiple devices simultaneously.
  • Editing an artwork on one device before synchronization (upload) on another device is complete.
  • Switching “Cloud Synchronization” or “Account” in the Settings window.

Please note the following to avoid such conflicts:

  • Do not edit the same artwork on multiple devices simultaneously.
  • After editing an artwork, confirm that synchronization (upload) is complete before editing it on another device.

Q:I subscribed for Prime Membership, and I would like to access the 20GB of Cloud Storage capacity. How is the account information entered in the settings window when using Cloud Storage (ibisAccount X (former Twitter) account, Facebook account, Apple ID) related to the store account used to subscribe for Prime Membership (Apple ID, Google account, HUAWEI ID, Microsoft account)?

When using Cloud Storage as a Prime Member, the "Purchase Account" used in the store to subscribe to Prime Membership (Apple ID, Google account, HUAWEI ID, Microsoft account) and the "Authentication Account" used for in-app login and entered in the Settings window when using Cloud Storage (ibisAccount, X (former Twitter) account, Facebook account, Apple ID) must be linked.

Cloud storage capacity is connected to the "Authentication Account." By linking the "Authentication Account" to the "Purchase Account" used to subscribe to Prime Membership, the Cloud Storage capacity will be increased to 20GB.

The accounts can be linked by logging into the ibisPaint app with the "Authentication Account" using the device that is set up with your "Purchase Account." Only one "Authentication Account" can be linked to each "Purchase Account."

For example, if you log out of the "Authentication Account A" currently being used to log in to ibisPaint, and then log in with "Authentication Account B", the linkage between the "Purchase Account" and the "Authentication Account A" will be lost. The Cloud Storage capacity of the "Authentication Account A" that was unlinked from the "Purchase Account" will be reduced to 64MB, and the Cloud Storage capacity of the "Authentication Account B" that was newly linked to the "Purchase Account" will be increased to 20GB.

Q:I use both the paid and free versions of ibisPaint. I have subscribed to Prime Membership with the paid version. Can I use the 20GB Cloud Storage capacity in the free version, too?

Yes. If you log in to the free version of ibisPaint with the same account you use for the paid version, you will be able to use the 20GB of Cloud Storage with the free version, too.

The same applies if you subscribe to Prime Membership with the free version and then use it with the paid version.

Q:I'm using both the iOS and Android versions of ibisPaint. I have subscribed to Prime Membership on the iOS version. Can I use the 20GB Cloud Storage capacity on the Android version, too?

Yes. If you use the same Authentication Account to log in to the Android version of ibisPaint as the one you use for the iOS version, you can use the 20GB Cloud Storage capacity on the Android version, too.

The same applies if you subscribe to Prime Membership on the Android version or Windows version instead of the iOS version.
